Physicals
All freshmen are required to have current immunization and a physical
examination within a year of the first day of school. Illinois state forms
are available at the middle schools. Sport physicals are not acceptable as
9th grade physicals. The lack of a completed physical and immunization
records will delay entrance into high school. If you have any questions,
call the NVHS nurse’s office at 428- 6877.
Course Catalog for Program Planning
The
Course Catalog for Program Planning contains general information and
descriptions of all courses available at Neuqua Valley High School. It was
recently given to students in the Middle School and is available on the
district and school website --
http://nvhs.ipsd.org . Please study the information in the booklet
so you and your son or daughter can make good decisions regarding his or her
high school planning.
Teacher Recommendations
Middle school teachers will provide recommendations for placement in courses
for high school. These recommendations are based on the teacher’s assessment
of each student’s academic background, along with standardized test scores,
and the skills needed for high school courses. We urge you to recognize and
comply with these recommendations in an effort to ensure academic success.
Please consult with the appropriate middle school teacher if you have
questions regarding placement.

Academic Resources
Students at both the Gold (H114) and Main (D203/205) buildings can take
advantage of The Academic Resource Centers, staffed rooms where students can
get help with homework, test preparation or other general academic concerns.
In addition, The Library Media Center is open to students. Students can
study, browse, read library materials, and use computers. Research resources
include subscription databases, most of which are available 24/7 via the
internet.
Advisory
Advisory Open House Materials
The Advisory program is an exciting initiative at Neuqua Valley. It was
developed to personalize
education for ALL students. Students at the freshman level will have the
unique opportunity to work with both a faculty Advisory and a Senior Student
Advisor.
All freshmen will be placed in Advisory groups of 25-30 students of the same
gender. Advisories meet on a daily basis from 7:20 to 7:40. The faculty and
senior co-advisors will facilitate meaningful activities that are designed
to promote academic and personal growth. Sample topics for Freshman Advisory
include an introduction to school resources, getting involved in high
school, reading strategies and study skills, and academic and personal goal
setting.
Students will remain in the same Advisory groups as they continue through
high school. This will provide students with a peer group that is consistent
as they move through the challenges of the high school years.
