2003 Season Wrap Up

State Champions

The Neuqua Valley High School boys soccer program had a dream season in 2003. We had five levels, freshman A and B, sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity with one hundred and five students athletes participating. The program compiled an impressive overall record of 80 wins 24 losses and 7 ties. Each level participated in two invitational soccer tournaments as well as the conference competition.

The Freshman B team, 8-8-1 (1-1-0), won the Wildcat Soccer Tournament and finished second in their group in the St Joseph Soccer Tournament.

The Freshman A team, 14-5-2 (6-2-0) finished second in the Upstate Eight Conference and won the wildcat Invitational Soccer Tournament.

The Sophomore team finished a very strong season with a record of 20-2-9 (9-1-0) We finished tied for first place in the Upstate Eight Conference.  We were also the Champions of the Best of the West Tournament.

The Junior Varsity team, 10-8-3 (6-0-1) were champions of the Upstate Eight Conference and were runners up in the Wildcat Invitation Soccer Tournament.

Soccer Team

The Varsity team finished with a record of 28-1-1 (10-0-0), Upstate Eight Conference Champions, IHSA Regional, Sectional and State Champions. We set a number of team records in 2003:

We also set some IHSA All Time soccer records:

  • Fewest goals allowed, tournament: 0
  • Most shutouts, tournament: 3
  • Most wins season: 28-1-1 (fourth best ever!)
  • Most consecutive wins, season: 16 (22nd)
  • Most goals scored, season: 116 (27th)
  • Fewest goals allowed, season: 14 (16th)

We won the very competitive Upstate Eight Conference for the second consecutive time with an undefeated and untied record of 10-0-0! We also finished runner up in the "Best of the West Tournament" and the "Warrior Invitational Tournament". We won the IHSA Regional Championship and IHSA Sectional Championship as well as the IHSA State Championship. We were the first team not only at Neuqua Valley, but the first high school in District 204 to win an IHSA State Championship.
