Orchesis, meaning the art of dancing in Greek, is a performance-based dance ensemble at Neuqua Valley High School.

The dance organization provides its’ members with various opportunities including experience in dance performance, student choreography, and potential for leadership acquisition through officer and choreographer roles.

The ensemble is comprised of forty-six dancers, freshmen through seniors, who were selected through an audition process. The dancers study and perform many disciplines of dance including ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, and hip-hop.

Orchesis members rehearse on Tuesdays from August through February and Saturdays from November through February.  Rehearsals focus on technique and prepare the dancers for performances throughout the year, including the 11th Annual Stage Production.

Orchesis tryouts are August 12th, 13th, and 14th from 5-8 in the main gym. The
mandatory parent meeting will be on August 11th from 7-8:30 in C202.

Fundraisers

Summer Dance Camp in conjunction with Poms
-Participants age kindergarten through 5th grade attend a camp the last week of July where they learn an Orchesis and Pom routine and then perform it on Friday for family and friends.

 

Auditions

Auditions for the 2008-2009 Dance Ensemble will be held August 12th, 13th, and 14th from 5-8 pm in the main gym at the main campus. Tuesday and Wednesday evening, prospective dancers will learn a short routine which they will be evaluated on Thursday by qualified judges. Prospective dancers will review technique and skills over the course of the week which will also be evaluated during the audition. Audition results will be posted on Friday morning at Door 46 of the main campus.

A mandatory parent meeting will be held August 11th at the main campus in C202 at 7:00 pm for both parents and dancers interested in auditioning for the 2008-2009 year. We will review audition information, but here a few things… dancers should wear all black during auditions and appropriate footwear, hair should be out of your face, and previous dancers should not wear any Orchesis wear.
